The VME is a Kenner-original design — the kind of deep-cut, ground-level Rebel hardware that Kenner excelled at turning into a toy. Released in 1982 in its original ESB box, most of the VME boxes that turn up today are the later ROTJ reissue; the ESB box is the harder find.
The Canadian bilingual box is scarcer still. Kenner Canada distributed bilingual English/French packaging for this wave, but US boxes were commonly stocked at Canadian retailers in place of the Canadian version — so while US VME boxes turn up in Canadian collections regularly, the genuine bilingual "La Guerre des Étoiles" box is a different matter entirely.
